Journey Planner

Obstetrics:
During your first appointment, Dr Horner will discuss your schedule of antenatal care and delivery at either The Portland Hospital or The Lindo Wing Suites. Here you can ask him any questions you may have. He will then arrange for you to have the Nuchal Translucency Screen with an appointment shortly afterwards to discuss its findings. Here you’ll also have your initial blood tests known as “booking bloods”.

Your first obstetric appointment is usually longer than others because there is so much to cover. Should you wish Dr Horner to support you throughout your pregnancy and delivery you can book your next appointment there and then.

Your initial consultation is at around 8-9 weeks gestation. Dr Horner will make a thorough assessment of your past medical and surgical history as well as your current general health. If you are seeing other specialists for any medical issues, please bring their details as we may need to contact them. Also, please bring the name and dosage of any medication you’re currently taking.

Dr Horner will advise you of the available tests to diagnose the well being of the fetus. Prior to the consultation, it would be helpful if you have a dating scan. Then Dr Horner can gauge whether your pregnancy is progressing in line with your dates. The dating scan also enables best planning of future blood tests and ultrasounds.

Gynaecology:
On your first appointment, please bring along any additional information from your GP or another specialist. This makes it easier to assess your medical and surgical history as well as your current general health. If needed, Dr Horner will examine you (breasts, abdomen and vagina) in the presence of a female assistant. Following the appointment, Dr Horner will then contact you with any test results. Also after every consultation, he’ll write a letter to your GP with a copy to you.as we may need to contact them. Also, please bring the name and dosage of any medication you’re currently taking.
